Last Thursday was Senior Night for the Mishawaka High School Wrestling Team. The Cavemen won 37-24 against the Clay Colonials. Led by six seniors- Ryan Hardesty, Deven Beaver, Blake Becker, Luke Sinkovics, Brock Staton, and Precious Trejo- the group fought hard and brought home the win. With the sectional right around the corner on Saturday, January 30, our wrestlers are practicing and training to win the championship.
Junior, Austin Faulkner, commented about how the team is performing and how the season is going, “There were a lot of positives and negatives, one thing I noticed is the team is getting involved in everyone’s matches. I believe that’s why we won.” In regards to the upcoming Sectional tournament next Saturday, he said that, “[he has been] staying after practice with my brother (sophomore, Alex Faulkner), working extra hard, and mentally preparing for the tournament.”
When asked about this past Saturday’s NIC tournament Coach Charlie Cornett said, “With the expansion of the NIC this year to 13 total teams, the competition was better than ever. We really had to be up to the task and wrestle well to set ourselves up for the Sectional and state tournament series that starts next week.”
Come out and support the team next Saturday. Go Cavemen!
